Our parish is situated in the West of Scotland, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Motherwell, and serves around 2000 souls in the town.
The parish has celebrated its half-century, the first parish priest having been appointed in February 1960. Our parish boundaries coincide with those of St Mark’s Church of Scotland parish, and over the years we have developed a friendship with St Mark’s, holding regular church services and occasional social gathering with the two parish communities.
The parish began celebrations for it's 50th anniversary in August 2010 and continued throughout the year until the following August.
O loving God, who called your servant Aidan from the peace of a cloister to re-establish the Christian mission in northern England, and gave him the gifts of gentleness, simplicity, and strength: Grant that we, following his example, may use what you have given us for the relief of human need, and may persevere in commending the saving Gospel of our Redeemer Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
